Changes to Cervical Screening in England from 1st July 2025

Posted on:

On 10th June 2025 the implementation of extended screening intervals for cervical screening participants was announced.

This change came into effect from 1 July 2025, and now means that most women aged 25 – 49 who test negative for HPV (meaning they are at very low risk of developing cervical cancer over the next five years) will be invited for screening at five-year intervals rather than three. This applies to all samples taken on or after 1st July 2025 and next test due dates remain the same for any samples taken before this date.

If HPV or anything concerning is found, you will still be followed up sooner – just as before. If you have any queries, please don’t hesitate to contact the Practice.
